Before Lexington and Concord, Portsmouth was already stirring with Revolution.
At Strawbery Banke, Revolutionary Portsmouth explores the seaport city’s role in the American Revolution through broadsides, objects, decorative arts, and the stories of people who lived through extraordinary change.
From liberty poles and militia activity to political networks, seaport life, and the contributions of local Black residents, the exhibition reveals how Portsmouth experienced the Revolution in homes, streets, waterfront spaces, and civic life.
