Parking Information

Strawbery Banke Museum is located in Portsmouth’s historic district, where parking can be limited. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time to parking, and review the following information below before arriving.

GENERAL ADMISSION

Free parking is available in the Museum’s lot at 14 Hancock Street during the regular season (spring through fall).

Spaces are limited and available on a first-come first-served basis. The parking lot cannot accommodate every visitor, particularly on busy weekends and during peak tourism periods.

Most visitors spend two to four hours at the Museum, so please keep that in mind when selecting a public parking option.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING

Accessible parking is available in the Museum lot, including three designated spaces—two of which are suitable for wheelchair vans. Visitors are welcome to pull up to the Museum entrance for drop-off or to accommodate accessibility needs.

SPECIAL EVENTS

There is no-onsite parking for Springfest, Ghosts on the Banke, Candlelight Stroll, and other special events unless otherwise noted on the event page.

Guests attending these events should park off-site and walk to the Museum. A very limited number of accessible parking spaces may be available for vehicles displaying a valid accessibility placard or accessible license plate.

Event-specific parking and drop-off procedures will be included on each event page.

Parking availability, rates, restrictions and hours are managed by the City of Portsmouth or private companies and are subject to change.

BUSES, RVS, AND CAMPERS

Buses, RVs, and campers may drop off passengers at the Museum, but parking is not available on-site. Parking may be available at nearby Pierce Island. Drivers should confirm parking availability and restrictions before arriving.

BIKE AND SCOOTER PARKING

Bike racks are available for visitor use outside of the Lawrence J. Yerdon Visitors Center in the Museum’s main parking lot.

Scooters may also park in this area.

PUBLIC PARKING DURING SELECT COMMUNITY EVENTS

Strawbery Banke opens its private lot at 14 Hancock Street for public parking during select after-hours community events, including Prescott Park Arts Festival, city fireworks displays, the Halloween Parade, and more. Parking is subject to availability and offered on a first come-first served basis. Payment is accepted by cash, Venmo, and credit cards. Rates: Nonmembers: $15 per vehicle. Members: Free. Please present a valid membership card.

Protect Your Belongings

Do not leave valuables in plain view inside your vehicle. Please lock your vehicle and take personal belongings with you.

Strawbery Banke Museum is not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to vehicles or personal property while parked on Museum grounds.

Parking Reminders

Parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis and cannot be reserved unless specifically designated by Strawbery Banke Museum.

Some spaces may be coned off or otherwise reserved by the Museum. Please observe all posted signs, cones, parking limits, and event-specific instructions.

Vehicles may not be left overnight or while visiting other destinations. Unauthorized vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
