    Travel back to 1870 and join Mrs. Goodwin for afternoon tea. Hear stories about her childhood, the amazing changes she has witnessed throughout the 19th century, and the games her grandchildren play, including the new-fangled game called baseball. 

  • Cookstove Bake-Along, March 18, 2021
    Cast-iron cookstoves became popular in the 19th century during the Industrial Revolution. Bake Victorian tea cakes on a cookstove discussing how measurements changed during the 19th century and from where and how the ingredients came. Viewers are welcome to observe or download the recipe and bake along!

    Join Alexandra Martin, Strawbery Banke Museum Archaeologist, as she dispels some of the many myths about her work. Through an interactive slide show and lively conversation, learn about what archaeology is really like.

  • A Conversation with Mrs. Shapiro, May 20, 2021
    Meet Mrs. Shapiro, a Jewish immigrant who came to America in the early twentieth century. She shares her experiences growing up in Ukraine under the Russian czar and how she escaped to a new home in America. Then she will compare her life in 1919 in Portsmouth, NH to her nine-year-old daughter’s experiences as the child of immigrants.
