Homeschool Days at Strawbery Banke

 

Fall Back in Time

Strawbery Banke’s maritime neighborhood comes to life for homeschooling families as residents get ready for the winter season. Pitch in at the Abbott store and learn how to preserve vegetables from a Victory Garden, gather apples for pressing into cider, help dry fruits for Colonial pies and make an autumn craft to take home. Feel the hustle and bustle of winter preparations with the inhabitants of the Puddle Dock neighborhood.

 

$8.00 per student (5 and up). $8.00 per adult. Children 4 and under are free.  No pre-registration is required for those just attending the self-guided tour.

 

Hands-On Workshop Choices

 

Add a hands-on workshop, taught by a museum professional to get a more in-depth look at a topic or time period:

 

·         Open Hearth Cooking ( ages 5+):11:00 – 12:00 & 1:00 – 2:00

 

·         Cookstove Cooking (ages 5+): 11:00 – 12:00 & 1:00 – 2:00

 

·         Architecture (ages 8+): 11:00 - 12:30 and 1:00 - 2:30

 

$5.00 per student (with museum admission)

Thanksgiving: From Festival to Feast

History Explorers: A Journey into Colonial Life

Recommended for ages 5-10.
Time: 10:00 – 1:00
Step into the past using a book as your time machine!  Hear an amusing story of a colonial boy’s day in Williamsburg, VA.  Experience his life as you participate in kitchen chores in front of an open hearth, make old-fashioned toothpowder, dress up and simulate a stagecoach ride, and play an 18th-century school game.  Participants will visit two historic homes as they compare and contrast daily life 200 years ago to daily life today.  Topics include health & hygiene, school, entertainments and daily chores.

 

Price: $12 per child (5+) and $8.00 per adult

Program Reservations:

Reservations are required for all programs and self-guided visits with groups of 10 or more (or to take advantage of discounted prices). Contact the museum anytime to reserve programs for future dates.

How to Register:

  • Name of group attending
  • Name and contact information for trip organizer
  • Total number of students in group
  • Age group of students
  • Choice of programs
  • Preferred visit dates (See program descriptions for dates)

Once your visit is scheduled, you’ll receive a Confirmation Email and information about how to access the online Field Trip Planner. Please check your confirmation page for accuracy and call us with any changes.

Fees and Payment:

NOTE: Groups paying for at least 10 people receive one trip organizer free. Participation in any Time Travel Workshop includes admission for the self-guided tour.
