In the 50 years of its existence, Strawbery Banke Museum has become one of New England’s better-known history museums. Lacking a single benefactor or significant government support, the success of the Museum has been due entirely to the generosity of thousands of donors who believed that its mission of preserving and promoting the history or ordinary Americans was important. To maintain its 42 historic buildings, to preserve its collections, to provide exciting, educational programs, and to remain relevant far into the future, the Museum must increase its modest $4 million endowment. With the celebration of the 50th anniversary in 2008, the Museum will kick off the public phase of a five-year campaign to complete the goal. With this infusion to the endowment, it will be possible for Strawbery Banke to retain a leadership role among America’s outdoor history museums.
